How Albemarle Arrests Work
Albemarle sits as the seat of Stanly County and ranks as its largest incorporated place. The state Office of State Budget and Management put the city at 17,058 residents. That was a July 1, 2024 estimate. That figure only describes scale. It is not a live count of who lives there now. It says nothing about current arrest volume.
Police work inside the city falls to the Albemarle Police Department, known as APD. An APD arrest report stays a city record. Detention is another matter. After an arrest, people in custody go to the Stanly County Ralph McSwain Detention Center. Albemarle runs no city jail of its own. The Sheriff's inmate list is the main public source for county custody. It applies even when APD made the arrest. Citations and releases can also leave an APD record without a roster card.
Where Albemarle Arrests Appear
The city posts no online arrest log. APD also publishes no date-filtered booking feed and no official mugshot page, so work through the channels below in the order that fits your question.
| Channel | What it shows | Photo? | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheriff Inmate List | Current county custody, booked time, charges link | When available | Official |
| APD Records Division | Public portions of city incident and arrest records | Request-specific | Official |
| North Carolina Portal | Case, citation, date, and disposition information | Not a booking-photo source | Official |
| SNAPOnline APD Reports | Periodic newsroom report windows | Not routinely | Independent, incomplete |
The roster shows current custody only. It is not a list of every Albemarle arrest. Each card can carry an inmate ID, physical descriptors, a booked date and time, an image, and links for charges plus VINE notice signup. The Sheriff publishes no exact refresh interval. There is no published image-retention policy either. A missing name can mean processing, release, transfer, a spelling difference, or an arrest that never led to jail custody.
Find an Albemarle Booking
Match the search route to the event. No single database covers everything, and both custody status and case details can change between checks.
- Confirm whether APD, the Sheriff, or another agency made the arrest.
- Search the official inmate list with the person’s full name and inspect the booked timestamp.
- Use APD Records for the city incident or arrest report if APD was involved.
- Check the North Carolina Portal or Stanly clerk for the filed case and later result.
- Contact detention staff if the roster result conflicts with recent, reliable information.
The booked time is not always the arrest time. North Carolina law requires a warrantless arrest to go before a judicial official without needless delay. Booking itself adds identification steps. The Sheriff publishes no fixed arrest-to-roster schedule. For a county-wide walkthrough of the roster and photo fields, see the Stanly County mugshot and booking section.
Albemarle Police Arrest Records
APD's Records Division keeps criminal incidents, arrests, citations, accidents, parking, and ordinance records. Requests go through the front desk. The department never closes. Initial incident reports are public. Juvenile data, details on uncharged suspects, and investigative notes are not. Give the full name, the approximate event date, the location, the report type, and the format you want.
Ask APD directly about the current fee and turnaround. The city posts no web fee schedule. If only part of a record can be released, request the public portion and ask which law supports the redaction. For the county booking sheet, the current custody entry, or a booking image, contact the Sheriff's records custodian instead. City and county staff hold different records.

Albemarle Arrest Report Count
APD's 2023 Annual Report counts 1,291 arrest reports for that single year. That is a workload figure. It is not a live booking count or a conviction tally. It also cannot say who sits in jail today. One person or event can generate records that never line up with a roster card.
The gap matters when you set that annual figure beside the Sheriff's live list. APD counts city enforcement records across a year. The jail roster shows who sits in county custody at the moment you look, and a court file then answers the charge and how the case ended. Just never merge their totals.
Albemarle Arrest News Windows
SNAPOnline, the digital home of the Stanly News Journal, runs periodic Albemarle Police Reports. One example covers August 15–16, 2023, and another covers November 26, 2023. The newsroom works in bounded date windows rather than a continuous arrest database. Articles may list a name, age, descriptors, a charge, a place, and a date. They are not a booking-photo gallery.
Treat an article as local context. Publication can be irregular, archives move, and a report series may skip events. For the official city report, APD is the source. The Sheriff roster covers current county custody. Commercial booking sites may copy entries and keep them after an official page changes. They cannot confirm custody or a case outcome.
Albemarle Arrest Roster View
The official Stanly County inmate list gives the county booking view. Albemarle arrestees held in jail appear there.

The Albemarle arrest roster search page shows who is currently in custody, not a fixed archive of every Albemarle arrest. Check the live roster for the latest booking information.
After an Albemarle Arrest
After an Albemarle arrest, the pieces live in separate systems. Custody sits with the jail. Court outcomes sit with the clerk. For booking questions, call the Ralph McSwain Detention Center at (704) 986-3739. Bond questions go to (704) 986-3858 on the county's communication and policy pages. Case questions belong to the Stanly clerk and the North Carolina Portal. A disposition simply means the court's result. That result may be a dismissal, plea, or conviction. NC SAVAN and VINELink send custody-status alerts. The service is not a court docket. A booking photo may not appear there. A full charge history may not appear there either. Once someone moves from county custody to state prison or supervision, the Department of Adult Correction may track them under different identifiers.
Resolve Albemarle Record Mismatches
Do the APD report, the jail roster, and the court file seem to disagree? Keep a short search log. Note the exact spelling and the time you checked. Also note the source address and any numbers that came back. One trap matters here. An APD report number is not a Sheriff inmate ID. It is also not the same as a court case number. Pair every identifier with its source. Then a later update will not look like an error. Ask each office a narrow question. APD can tell you whether its public report exists. Detention staff can speak to present custody and what booking details are releasable. The clerk handles the filed case and its outcome. A newspaper story, however accurate at publication, cannot answer those official questions. This works well when an arrest produced a city report but no active jail entry.
